1  Ceriatone / Overtone / Brightening up the OD channel on my 2008 OTS 50 on: May 25, 2017, 04:18:39 PM
Would appreciate input as to brightening the overdrive channel. Mine is quite dark, even with the bright switch on. When I play my 335 I expect it to be on the mid heavy side, but with my Strat I would like to be able to get closer to Robben Ford's "bite". Would really like to get Larry Carlton-ish snap with the humbuckers as well. What info do you wise folks have for me?Huh?? Thanks in advance. Bill

Have any of you used, or tried this speaker? i have a 2008 OTS 50 and I am looking to upgrade to a more EVM 12L type speaker without spending a fortune.
Thanks in advance for your input. Bill

I had a good bit of noise from my strat, but I did a good shielding job on it and now it is as quiet as can be!
Your tech should be able to do this and it will greatly improve the tone, as well as the gain output of the guitar.
It will make the strat useable with any amp at any volume. It will sound big, fat and powerful.
Cheers!
4  Ceriatone / Overtone / Trying something different in the loop on: September 08, 2012, 09:11:16 AM
I have decided that since I can't order a c-lator at this time, I'm thinking of trying something a bit different. I have a small mixer and thought I would try using it as a buffer for effects in the loop of my OTS 50. Any thoughts? Anybody try this before? If you are in the Portland, Oregon USA region and hear odd noises at high volumes...well, that might mean that I have failed and will probably be, at least temporarily, deaf. Grin
5  Ceriatone / Overtone / Speaker opinions please on: February 21, 2012, 09:10:10 AM
I just picked up a 4ohm Celestion G12-T100. Any thoughts, experiences, opinions?
Thought I'd try it with my OTS 50 in my D-style 1x12 cab. I read some generic reviews at
musician's friend, etc and all is pretty positive.
6  Ceriatone / Overtone / Eminence Commonwealth 12 on: January 16, 2012, 07:06:17 AM
Has anyone here tried the Eminence Commonwealth 12" with their OTS?
Just curious. I hear good things about them. Maybe in a D-style 1x12 cab?

I want to get just a bit more out of my OD channel on my OTS 50. I've read about some people removing the "snubber" caps on V2. What does this do? And these are the caps that are across pins 1&3 and 6&8 right?
Thanks, Bill
8  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Amp Mods on: May 12, 2011, 05:06:26 AM
I have an '08 OTS 50 and the only mods I've done are: removed the FET input, (didn't use it), and put a "deep" switch
in it's place, put the OD trim pot on the back panel, and put a 15pf bright cap on the master volume pot. I LOVE THIS AMP!!!!!  Built a D-style cab with an EVM-12L and I can get just about any tone I want from Carlton, Ford, SVR and even Bonnie Rait's slide tones. Yeah, these amps are amazing for slide, clean or overdriven!
9  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS & First time Builders on: May 12, 2011, 04:42:39 AM
I had only done a cap and tube job on an old amp I found at a thrift store and it worked! As a guitarist, I've always made my own cables and wired in my new pickups, so using a soldering iron was easy. But, I was advised against such a complex amp for my first build. So, I went for it! I took it very slowly and exercised great patience. Followed the layout and photos as well as Niks emails and tips from the great people on this forum and I've been playing with this amazing amp for almost three years now. Go for it and take the tips from here... you'll be glad you did.
Best of luck!
10  Ceriatone / Overtone / Still waiting!?!?! on: May 12, 2011, 04:27:20 AM
Is the 5 watt OTS ever going to happen? I've been watching the forum and the Ceriatone site for new releases and still nothing. Ok Nik, the potential sales of this type of gem are huge. Give us a hint, or something. We love your amps and want more.
11  Ceriatone / Overtone / Blowing fuses...HELP on: October 24, 2010, 02:58:31 AM
Went into my home studio last night to play and found that the power switch on my OTS was in the ON position. Standby was off but no light...no power! Checked all connections, etc and found the fuse blown. Bought new fuses and tried one...it blew. Another try...pop! dead. Changed my power tubes...blew another. HELP!!!!!
I'm supposed to play at church tomorrow and my favorite amp is down. I'm very unhappy! Will use the back up amp, but want to get my OTS up and running again.
Any help is much appreciated.  Sad Cry Huh?
12  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: 1/2 power mod on a 50watt OTS ? on: September 27, 2010, 11:57:31 PM
I've read through all the suggestions here and the one thing I found interesting is that not one of you mentioned trying a 1x10 inch cab. My recent discovery, after being repeatedly asked to turn my amp down, (OTS 50watt w/ EVM12L 1x12 D-style), at church was that just by going to a 10 inch Jensen Jet was a very useable volume and still had all the tone. Built a D-style, closed back, ported cab for it too...sounds quite exquisite actually. My two cents. By the way I am the chief sound engineer at my church.
13  Ceriatone / Overtone / Revoicing my late '08 OTS on: January 06, 2010, 05:36:30 AM
I love my OTS, but, I have done some research and found that  Dumble #124's preamp cap and resistor values are quite different from the OTS that I have. I was desiring that raw, open, gritty overdrive sound that Ford and Carlton have. This amp is amazing and the cleans are very satisfying, just what I was hoping for, but the overdrive is too smooth and not quite bright enough. I've been using it for a little over a year now and hoped it would open up as it got more use. The S&M version is very close to #124 specs, if not right on. The clips that Sami has on Youtube were what sold me on the amp, but by the time I could order my kit, the layout had been heavily modified. I didn't notice this until I started my build and had to print out the newer layout for my build.
Question for Nik...do you, or, would you sell the cap and resistor kits to modify back to original specs?

mcinku, sorry for not replying sooner. No resistor, and the voltages did not change. Nik told me to just take the power wire off the FET and go with the mod. Works awesome! Very easy mod.
15  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE on: March 14, 2009, 05:03:49 AM
OTS was my first build. Took a long time, but was not as bad as I had heard. I had never built any amp before and mine is  quite nice. I even built the cab from red oak.
