1  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / 5x3 head to combo convert on: December 08, 2015, 11:09:14 AM
Hey I've had my 5x3 worth kt66s for a few years now and have just thought about converting it to a combo amp. Would I be able to build it straight into a cab or would I need to change the chassis to the combo one? I'll be building the cab myself but I am wondering whether it will make life harder sticking with the head version.
Thanks
2  Ceriatone / Hey What?! / 504 extra wires from pt on: April 14, 2012, 01:05:44 AM
Hey guys
In the middle of putting together my 504 and there are 2 yellow wires coming from the pt that aren't on the layout. Anyone know what they are for? Or should I put them aside with the other unused wires?
Thanks for the help
3  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / Re: 5x3 hummm... on: May 11, 2011, 07:38:31 AM
Just thought I would jump in and say the reason for the hum was the grounding of the first 2 caps was connected to the output grounding under the board. I reattached it to the grounding of the input jacks and the hum was gone!! Too easy. Cheers
4  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / 5x3 hummm... on: May 04, 2011, 09:06:55 AM
Hey I finally got my 5x3 together and it sounds great. There is an audible hum at higher levels.
What would be the cause of this? The heater wires are wound loosely for the preamp tubes. I used a drill to get the heater wires to the first kt66 ( instead of 6l6) but hand wound them for the rest. would this be the reason for the hum?

I have been through it with a chopstick and checked all the connections which are good. So I could think maybe would re winding the heater wires fix this?

thanks for the help guys
5  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / Big deluxe 4ohms? on: March 31, 2011, 06:32:15 AM
Hey guys just wondering how much modification it would take to get my big deluxe to run at 4 ohms?
Just interested in using it with a 4ohm bass cab I have. I noticed on the layout that there is a 4ohm wire that says not used. is it more than just putting that with the impedance selector?
Cheers
6  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / 5x3 with different tubes or something more? on: December 01, 2010, 12:45:43 PM
Hi guys

I am looking at building an amp soon. I will most probably do a 5e3 circuit as I really like the simplicity of the circuit.

Now my problem comes when I need more power than 2 6v6 tubes are going to give me. I know the 5x3 uses 6l6 tubes with but these aren't really the sound I am after. I would rather use kt66s or possibly el34s.

Would this be similar to the 5x3 design for 6l6s? What further mods would I need to make to the circuit?

This would get in the realm of about 20w yea?
I am looking to between 20 - 30w. Would I be better off taking the power amp section of a higher powered amp and the front end of the 5e3 to build something more to my suiting or will there be problems here as well?

Are there any other simple designs that I could look into? I like the least amount of knobs possible...

Thanks for any help you can give me. Sorry for the long windedness of my post but I hope it all makes sense.

Cheers

Adam
