1  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: HELP, New OTS, CANT DIAL IT IN on: September 29, 2019, 09:18:28 PM
Hi JLH
Input Volume 12-2 o'clock - Rock position
Treble 12 o'clock
Mids 3 o'clock
Bass 8 o'clock (Or off I find it very bass heavy)
Level 12 o'clock
Ratio 9 o'clock

Master Vol 10-11 o'clock
Presence 1 o'clock

Overdrive trim control about 9 ( as low as you can go)

C-lator Drive 2
Out - (this is now your master volume)
I use an ES-335 and an Attenuator so I can push the C-lator Out up. Remember to use your ears and have fun.

2  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS boost on: July 22, 2019, 10:00:50 PM
Hi Greg
I will make some personal observations. I find that this amp performs best when
1. using a C-lator with it. (Drive 2 o'lock. Input max. Output 3 o'lock)
2. When the master volume is up around 3-4. (That is very loud) (I do use an attenuator)
Then I have found that the both the boost and overdrive functions work well.
I find that as the master volume and the C-lator outputs are reduced the thinness and brittleness you mention do increase.

(I have never been able to make it sound good at low volumes.)

Fantastic!
4  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Ceriatone OTS Loop/ Master volume problem ala Pickmaster on: August 12, 2015, 10:07:31 PM
The output of your effects unit will act as the Master Volume now.
5  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: any mods to tighten up OTS mushy bottom? on: May 31, 2011, 11:16:28 PM
Has anyone tried using a 12AT7 as the phase inverter? It is suggested that these will clean up the bottom end in Fender amps....and no modifications required.
6  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: The Robben Ford-quest; how close can I get on a "standard" OTS? on: October 28, 2010, 10:29:33 PM
The simple answer is yes. Settings? to taste but I just set everything vertically up and tweek from there. (Overdrive trim 9-11 oclock) (C-lator input 12-2, drive 12(vertically up) output = master volume)

but....... (there is always one of those)

For me (so this is just my opinion) I was looking for an easy (non-evasive) way to balance the volume between the overdrive and the clean channels and I have found that putting a 5751 in V2 does this and, by accident, also gets the overdrive channel close to RF dirty rhythm sound. This sounds good with single coil pup's however you do lose some gainy sustain from the 12AX7 to the 5751 change.
7  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Which OTS for me? on: October 18, 2010, 08:58:25 PM
Just a note about internal trimers. The non HRM OTS has one as well. But Nik has a mod to place it on the back panel. However once you have set this..........

Hi
Just to clarify - If you have two 16 ohm speakers/cabinets. You can plug each of them into the OTS and switch the OTS to 8 ohms.

9  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Noise and Loss of Volume from the C-Lator on: May 20, 2010, 10:29:29 PM
I too are getting a Clator with my OTS50. Off topic. I do know that you don't have to have anything connected in the loop but.......

1. Can you put instrument level floor type effect units in the loop or do they have to be line level rack units? I have an MXR Stereo Chorus that I was wondering if I could use here?

2. Can the loop be used just to feed another amplifier or poweramp? I mean using the send to another amp but not having anything in the return? or will this interrupt the OTS power amp?

Thanks

1.) Match your D-lator's S&R w/your effects loop on your amp

Noob question. How do you do this?

Thanks

Noob question.
Is the structure of the OTS such that you can interchange just 6L6's with just EL34's at will or is this a decision that is made at the time of building the amplfier?

Eg I can't put EL34's in my Bassman as it is structured to only use 6L6's.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies

bobgoblin you say you like the amp at 4 ohms is that a matched load or a mismatch into an 8 ohm cabinet?
13  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: reducing power of JTM45? on: April 16, 2010, 02:15:18 AM
Not sure if this would sound any good as I have not tried this in a Marshall type amp but... Have you tried putting a lower output preamp tube in V1? Say a 12AU7 or a 12AY7 (I wouldn't recommend a 12AT7) this is going to lower the input in the front end. (give the amplifier less signal to work on) As I say it could sound bad but a cheap option that may work?

Hi all
I am in line for a 50watt OTS from Nik and I have never played a D Style amplifier before. I have watched all of the clips and read through most of this forum. (So an excited noob in limbo with too much time on his hands!) My question is to those who have lived with their amp for a while. What is the most important thing you have learned about owning this amplifier and wished you had known from the start?

This could be from always setting the Bass higher than the Middle control or the type of speaker you have connected to it or always having the presence on 8?

What has experience taught you and what would you want to tell someone before they turn one on for the first time?

Thanks

What bias setting do you set for the KT88's?

Thanks
