Hey folks! I'm a die hard Duane Allman fan. Currently have a '75 Marshall Bass/Lead 50 watt head which I understand is the same circuit as the 1986 but Marshall had to put LEAD on it to appeal to guitarists. Duane used the 1986 50's as part of his rig and this amp does a pretty good job but is due for caps, etc. I asked Ceriatone & a new board, etc. was recommended...I'm kind of torn between selling the Marshall and getting one of their 1986 heads as I'd come out on the good side money wise , well...most likely. Haha, but anyway wanted feedback from anyone who bought a "Skydog" or just the stock 1986 head. Then again I've been thinking of something like a TW Clone or a Overtone HRM or something way different. So many amps...so little time! But first need feedback on the 1986. Thanks

Hello grizztone,

I'm a Duane Allman fan too and I just ordered a ceriatone plexi 50 1986 to nik. I should receive it at the end of september. I will tell you about this amp.
A friend of mine had tried the Skydog amp and he said it sound fantastic.
The skydog amp is 99 % a ceriatone plexi50 1986 with PPIMV and inserted bridge channel.

Bye

Marshall did make a Lead/Bass combo.   That guy from The Jam uses them.   What is his name... Paul Weller?   Is that what you have in a head?   If you do not know for sure, find out.   They are fairly rare amps.   Any Marshall from that era (1975) will always be worth some money.    Is there any way you can keep it, and buy the Ceriatone?    Ceriatone makes great, hand wired amps.   We have several, but their resale value is low.   If you can find one used, you will be miles ahead.
We have both the 1986 and the 1987.   The only question is the OT.   They are very good quality transformers.   The only question is how close they are in spec to a plexi panel Marshall of that period.   Other than that, your ears and fingers will think you are plugged into a Marshall.
Good Luck

Hi grizztone! Could you by any chance take some photos of your amps circuit? As far as I know the Lead&Bass is a 1986 with a different NFB resistor and a bright cap on volume I (hence the lead). I'd really appreciate a pic of the circuit as I am very interested in this amp  Smiley
