well, reading this forum convinced me to build an ots, but now im stuck trying to.figure out the mercury magnetics power tranny wiring for USA. So im begging for help. can anyone with a mercury mag tranny post a picture of the innards and msg me?Huh?  Im stuck on the dual primary concept, and th 6v leads.  No idea what they are doing.  I would like to fire this sucker up and play some star spangled banner on the 4th to burn it in!!!!   Im so close, but at a loss since i only read schematics and solder, but dont understand why it works yet. This is my first build. I got confident after sucessfully modding my fender amp without killing myself and setting it on fire.

Have you tried looking over at ampgarage.com?  They have tons of technical info, so it may be worth while to check there.

For 120V operation tie the BLK/YEL and BLK together and solder to the neutral terminal of the power supply socket. Tie the RED/YEL and RED together and solder to the Mains switch. The 6V leads get soldered to the relay power supply board. No difference which gets soldered where.

Thanks everyone.  I am still not there yet. I need to get more specific as I am not technically proficient enough to understand the feedback on the secondary leads - is there polarity on the 60 and 6V leads?  Do the 6.3V leads attach as shown?

Please see attached picture.  I drew lines from the Mercury Magnetic transformer (right) to the ceriatone schematic (left) for the secondary leads in the colors that the leads are from Mercury Magnetics.

Is this right??? I am so close but afraid to wire this wrong.

Your drawing is correct!
All the voltages off the trannie are AC so there is not a polarity!
Hope this helps

Beat me to it, Todd. No polarity on the Secondaries.  Looks good to me too!

Thanks everyone!  Well, the thing fires up and doesn't blow fuses, and didnt catch on fire!  But.... it buzzes really loud and squeals even with volume all the way down.

So off to research the next forums.  Any tips??? Or forums.

I am getting sound out of the Power Amp Input with my guitar - low volume but still real and clear.

here are all my voltages
    Pin 1, Pin 3, Pin 6, Pin 8
V1 170, 1.8,    271,    0
V2 203, 2.1,    324,    0
V3 304, 60,    286,    61

    Pin 3,  4,     5,   6,       8
V4, 470, 470, -34, 460    26
V5, 470, 470, -34, 460   26

obviously my preamp is jacked... where do I start?  rebuild???

i would just try checking and swapping the preamp tubes first. get some cheap ones like JJ's or Sovteks and see if you get any sound out of her. V3 looks perfect. V2 Pin 6 looks a lil high as does Pin 6 on V1, but Pin 1 on both look ok so it could be a tube issue. If that brings no joy start checking all your solder joints.
Hope this helps!

Man, thanks for all the help.  Seriously was worried for a bit.

Well here is the story. I found I wired V1 wrong and probably fried my v1 and v2 tubes.  I fixed that and still had huge buzz.  Pulled the input on a whim and found I didn't wire a ground!!! Oooooppps...

Ok, so now my amp works, at least clean, which is very fendery.  But my lead channel screams in a bad way.  How do i troubleshoot the overdrive?  Do I have the relays wrong? I don't know how to read these things. Any help would be great.  Should I move this to a different thread? Getting close... At least to the point I can start tweaking to get killer tone.

Can you take some closeup pics of the amp guts and maybe post them in a new thread, maybe labeled need help clean works but od screams. This way you will get more eyes on it and once figured out the thread could be referenced easily for new builders that may have the same problems.
