Title: 5F6-A with effects out, and an extra tube for overdrive.
Post by: agdtec on November 17, 2011, 08:36:18 AM
I had the chance to play a 60's bassman and love the tone.
I would love to have that same tone with effects send return added and an 12ax7 for overdrive.
I like the clean tone, and sound I got using a tube overdrive pedal was very sweet.
I loved that tone.
The set up was in a pawn shop and they wanted an insane amount for it.  But the way the guy had it set up, was really an awesome tone.
I don't remember which pedal it was, but was more impressed with the clean tone anyway.

Does anybody know of an  bassman clone that already has this setup?

Or Nik can you make this kind of mod to your 5F6-A?

Remember, the '60's models circuits are very different from  the late '50's 5F6A. Fender kept getting cleaner and more mid-scooped through its evolution. The difference between a '66 Bassman and '59 is night and day (it really is like Fender vs. Marshall).

Just adding an "extra tube" for overdrive isn't as easy as that statement makes it seem.  Usually, it;s a matter of voicing and and tweaking that extra gain stage to be just right.
