Title: Differences in MV configuration
Post by: horbrarian on June 22, 2011, 12:49:54 PM
First things first, I'd built a stock 18w from a basis schematic a couple of years ago and had always wanted to build a TMB before coming across the Ceriatone version. I've made one up and it's fantastic, it blows my Fender Blues Deville out of the water.

I'd been using the schematic with the effects loop and have only just notices the 2010 version of the TMB.
The master volume seems to operate at a different junction in the circuit and I wondered if there is a fundamental difference in the way it works.

Thanks to Ceriatone, I can't imagine how much work has gone into these designs, you must never sleep!

I can't compere without knowing how the other MV was different.

I can see in Nik's March 2010 layout (though I don't have a schematic to compare) that the current MV is just a basic pre-PI MV, as simple as they come really, it's just an extra volume between the tone stack and PI on the TMB channel.

ME me the 18-watt design is ripe for using a voltage reduction circuit (power scaling, VVR, etc.) instead of any master volume.

This is the effects loop version:
