Title: eminence legend 1258 or jensen p12q?
Post by: Tone Control on February 21, 2011, 03:10:39 PM
Victoria used to fit the jensens, but Mark there says that although they are more authentic, they don't break up as nicely, and now he uses eminence legend 1258s (which I have not tried)

Any opinions?

Also which would best suit a 5e3?

Which would best suit a 5E3 for who.? It only matters what you like. Kind of like asking who is prettier, this girl or that girl. Prettier to who's eyes.?
As far as the Vicky is concerned....I would definitely trust Marks assessment. But then again, maybe you prefer the Jensen's, even if his statement about break-up is correct.
Do you know what I mean.? Read any guitar/amp Forum (gear page, telecaster, seymour duncan, mesa boogie, etc.) and look at what happens when somebody asks for a "speaker recommendation". You get a thumbs up for 10-20 different speakers, and they are all "the best" speaker for whoever is listening.
If you have been playing for awhile, I assume you must have at least one 12 inch speaker laying around. Try what you have and then go from there. You will always be able to use an Eminence Governor or Texas Heat, or a Celestion H30 or CL80.  Buy a few and see what works. Like tubes, you always need to have some extra speakers in your tone arsenal.....
Good Luck

I bought an eminence legend 1258
it suits the 5E3 very well indeed, and it's not as rough when the amp breaks up

I believe the Weber speaker used in the Fender Custom Shop 57 Twin was pretty close to the original speakers...they sounded pretty damn good in the one I had chance to play through anyway!! Pricey though...at least over here...
