Title: mixing preamp and power amps sections from different amps
Post by: beatnik on March 06, 2012, 10:03:12 AM
Hi guys, It's my first post here! I'm kinda new to valve amplification but I'm starting right now.

I'd like to build a system extremely versatile, mainly for recording purposes.

I need flexibility with the wattage of the power amp, without losing the opportunity of a good sounding pre.

For example, I'd like to use the sound of the JCM preamp, in a Champ power amp!!

I think about using a buffer like the c-lator, which could match the impedances and levels between pre and power sections on different amps.

Do you think that this could work?

Many thanks in advance

The JCM 800's cathode follower stage (V2B) pretty much takes care of any voltage/impedance issue you would have matching it to a power amp.

So, in this image, the preamp is on top....

You can take the signal coming of the 'B" at right of that preamp schematic and run that into whatever power amp you want run it into.
